Gamut Magazine

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

WE ARE CLOSED FOR GOOD, AS OF 12/1/2017.

(If we re-open, we'll let you know.)

We will publish neo-noir, speculative fiction with a literary bent. Primarily we are seeking short stories, but we are also looking for poetry and non-fiction. We pay ten cents a word for original fiction and non-fiction, three cents a word for reprints. Poetry is typically $15-25, depending on the length. We accept stories from 500 to 2,000 words (flash fiction) and 2,001 to 5,000 words (short fiction). We are focused on the following genres: fantasy, science fiction, horror, crime, neo-noir, magical realism, Southern gothic, new weird, bizarro, and transgressive—all with a literary bent. Do not send us anything that might be considered "classic" within these genres, or expected. Humor and satire are hard sells, but we've taken it in the past. Avoid gratuitous violence and gore, misogyny, rape, and molestation. Simultaneous submissions are okay, multiple submissions in the same category are not (outside of poetry). You MAY send one piece for new fiction AND reprint fiction, for example. Also, we are actively seeking and open to a wide range of authors, diversity is important to us, so whatever your sex, race, orientation, religion, country of origin, current location, age, experience, etc.—send us your work, we want to read it. Please remove all identifying information from your writing, as we read blind. Also, formatting should be Times New Roman (or similar font), 12 point, single-spaced, one-inch margins, and for the web (hard returns between paragraphs, no indentations). Cover letters may include personal information, including bios. REPRINTS CANNOT BE ONLINE ANYWHERE.
